All routes operated by Filo Denizcilik have been suspended after one of its catamarans sank off Kyrenia, Turkish Cypriot “public works and transport minister” Erhan Arıklı said on Monday.
The announcement followed a report by Kıbrıs Postası that the company had continued operating its routes as normal despite the sinking. Eight people have died and 18 remain missing.
Search for the black box continues
Arıklı said efforts were under way to locate the Filo Jet’s “black box”, which is considered crucial to determining the cause of the sinking.
Press conference postponed
He added that a scheduled press conference had been postponed at the request of Ünal Üstel to avoid disrupting the ongoing investigation.
