Officials will revisit the area within days after unauthorised works were identified and a suspension request was issued.

Officials from the Limassol District Local Government Organisation are expected to visit Trozena in the coming days to check whether an investor has complied with instructions to stop works where irregularities were found, the organisation’s president, Yiannis Tsouloftas, told CNA.

Asked about the large development by a foreign investor in the environmentally sensitive Natura 2000 area that includes the settlement of Trozena, Tsouloftas said an inspection had found a number of works being carried out without the required planning permits.

“On May 25, 2026, the organisation sent a letter calling for the suspension of all works where a building permit was required,” he said, adding that a deadline of several days had been given. Officials will then return to the area “to confirm whether there has been compliance.”

At the same time, and with the agreement of the Environment Department, the organisation has asked the project’s architects to submit a master plan covering the entire development.

According to Tsouloftas, the plan should present the project as a whole so that the two competent authorities can examine it for approval. Any individual applications would then be assessed on the basis of that master plan.
