Sunday and Monday are expected to be cold, as a cold air mass affects Cyprus from Saturday evening. However, no severe weather requiring a warning is expected, Meteorological Officer Andreas Chrysantou told CNA.
Rain was recorded on Saturday in the southern and southeastern parts of the Troodos mountains and in the Lefkara area. The showers may develop into thunderstorms by the evening, Mr Chrysantou said, after which the weather will become clear.
A brief shower in the mountains cannot be ruled out on Sunday. From Sunday through Tuesday, the weather will be mainly clear, with occasional clouds.
Temperature to increase by Wednesday
Rain is forecast on the western and northern coasts on Tuesday night. On Wednesday, the weather will be mainly clear in most areas, with a chance of rain in the mountains after midday.
The cold air mass will lower temperatures by two to three degrees Celsius compared with Saturday. Temperatures will range around 18 to 20 degrees inland and on the coasts, while overnight temperatures in the mountains will be about 3 to 4 degrees.
Sunday and Monday are expected to be cold both during the day and at night. Temperatures are expected to rise by Wednesday or Thursday and return to the levels normal for the season, Mr Chrysantou said.
In response to a question, the Meteorological Officer said the forecast for the coming days does not include conditions that fall within the scope of warnings issued by the Department of Meteorology.
