Representatives of the Cyprus Police Association (SAK) met with the Chief of Police at Police Headquarters on Monday, where discussions focused on a range of matters affecting police personnel, including the proposed voluntary early retirement scheme.
According to SAK, the meeting was attended by the Assistant Chief of Police for Administration and Operations and other senior officers, with participants examining issues related to staff welfare, working conditions and operational needs.
Early retirement scheme reviewed
SAK said the discussions included a detailed examination of the voluntary early retirement scheme and the parameters governing its implementation.
The issue was among the key topics raised by the association as part of broader efforts to address concerns affecting members of the police force.
Insurance coverage raised
The association also discussed the matter of insurance coverage for police officers and the need to ensure adequate protection while carrying out their duties.
According to SAK, the discussions focused on safeguarding officers during the performance of their responsibilities and addressing concerns relating to workplace risks.
Allowances and service conditions
The meeting also covered issues relating to allowances and the wider conditions of service for police personnel.
Participants exchanged views on matters affecting the day-to-day working environment of officers and the operational effectiveness of the force.
Concerns over transport of psychiatric patients
Discussions further addressed the transportation of psychiatric patients and the challenges police officers face when managing such incidents.
According to SAK, particular emphasis was placed on ensuring the safety of both officers and the individuals involved in these cases.
Issues affecting civilian staff and special constables
Additional matters concerning the civilian staff of the police force were also raised, along with the status, employment conditions and service requirements of Special Constables.
SAK said the meeting was conducted in a constructive atmosphere, with both sides exchanging views and seeking solutions to issues that directly affect personnel and the operational capacity of the Cyprus Police.
