The search for those still missing after the deadly catamaran sinking off Kyrenia has entered a potentially decisive phase. A research vessel has reached the location of an object believed to be the wreck, with the operation being conducted using robotic systems.

Ünal Üstel, the “prime minister” of the breakaway regime, expressed optimism from the port of occupied Kyrenia that there would be developments during the day in the search for the missing.
He said further information from the research vessel was expected during the evening, expressing hope that the operation would lead search teams to those still unaccounted for.
Earlier, Turkish Cypriot leader Tufan Erhürman said in a social media post that researchers had reached the location of an object detected a day earlier by the Turkish search-and-rescue vessel İşin, indicating that it may be the sunken catamaran.
