The UN mission in Cyprus says António Guterres came away from his visit with a clear message from Cypriots, that they want progress and cooperation rather than division.

UN Secretary-General António Guterres crossed the Green Line during his visit to Cyprus this week, walking through the UN-controlled buffer zone that has divided Nicosia for more than five decades. In a post on X, the UN mission in Cyprus said Guterres witnessed "an island of rich history and resilient people," adding that the message from Cypriots was clear, they want progress, compromises and a future defined by cooperation rather than division.

The UN mission said Guterres called for renewed efforts on confidence-building measures and reaffirmed the United Nations' commitment to supporting the process.
