The north's health ministry says a detainee examined for the disease does not have it, dismissing reports of a "meningitis panic" as untrue.

The north's health ministry has denied media reports of a meningitis case at the area's prison. In a statement, it said a person held at the facility had been examined and found not to have meningitis. It added that the detainee's general health is good and that he remains under medical observation in hospital.

According to the 'ministry,' reports suggesting he had been diagnosed with meningitis before testing was complete, along with claims of a "meningitis panic" at the facility, do not reflect reality.
