Police are continuing to take statements as laboratory results are awaited to determine the cause of death of the infant boy, who died at Limassol General Hospital on Thursday night.

The death of a 12-month-old boy in Limassol remains unexplained after a post-mortem examination carried out on Friday failed to establish the cause of death.

Police said that tissue samples were taken during the examination for histopathological and other laboratory tests, the results of which are expected to shed light on what caused the child's death. Investigators are treating the case as an unnatural death and are continuing to take statements in order to determine the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.

The infant boy had been unwell in the days before his death. On Thursday evening he was taken to Limassol General Hospital, where he died despite the efforts of medical staff.

The funeral will be held this morning at 10am at the Church of Archangel Michael in Limassol. The family has requested that those attending wear white.
