Parts of the island smelt the marriage of summer rain and dust as isolated showers and thunderstorms broke the monotony of June heat on Saturday.
According to forecasts by the Meteorology Department, the isolated showers and thunderstorms are expected to continue through to Monday, mainly affecting mountainous and inland areas and, potentially, parts of the eastern and southeastern coastline.
Speaking to CNA, meteorological officer Iasonas Christodoulou said weather conditions are expected to ‘improve’ as of Tuesday, with predominantly clear skies.
Christodoulou noted that temperatures are currently close to the seasonal average for this time of the year. A slight rise in temperature is expected during the coming week but not to the point where heatwave or other high-temperature warnings would have to be issued.
Based on current forecasts, Cyprus will have to wait a little longer before experiencing its first major heatwave of the summer.
