Fire Breaks Out Near Konies in Paphos District, Multiple Units Respond

At least ten fire engines and aircraft are battling the blaze, with earthmovers also being deployed.

An alert was sounded around midday on Thursday, 13 August, in the Paphos district, following reports of a fire in the area of Konies.

Firefighting forces continuously reinforced

According to the latest update from the Forestry Department, firefighting forces are being continuously reinforced, with at least ten fire engines already at the scene. Earthmovers are also approaching the area to assist in efforts to contain the fire.

Aircraft carrying out continuous water drops

Several aircraft have also joined the firefighting effort, carrying out continuous water drops to reinforce ground crews working to extinguish and contain the fire front.

Operation to control and contain fire under way

The firefighting operation is in full swing, with the relevant services working to bring the fire under control and establish its boundaries.

Meanwhile: early morning fire in Orounta contained

A separate fire that broke out in the early hours of Thursday in Orounta, Nicosia, has since been contained, with efforts under way to extinguish it completely. The Fire Service said fire engines from the Lakatamia and Peristerona stations were operating in the area, supported by the Forestry Department.
