The Kremlin has confirmed that a new round of trilateral security consultations involving Russia, the United States and Ukraine will be held in Abu Dhabi on Wednesday and Thursday. The talks, initially scheduled for 1 February, were postponed to allow for coordination among all participating sides.
The confirmation follows earlier statements by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
Kremlin confirmation of dates and venue
Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov told journalists that the next cycle of consultations is scheduled for 4 and 5 February in Abu Dhabi.
He clarified that the meetings were originally planned for 1 February but were delayed in order to coordinate the schedules of all parties involved in the negotiating process.
Background to the trilateral consultations
The first round of security consultations between representatives of Russia, the United States and Ukraine took place in Abu Dhabi on 23 January. A follow-up meeting was held the following day, on 24 January.
Composition of the negotiating delegations
The Russian delegation was led by Igor Kostyukov, Head of the Main Directorate of Intelligence of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces.
On the Ukrainian side, the trilateral working group was chaired by Rustem Umerov, Secretary of Ukraine’s National Security and Defence Council.
