Colombian President Gustavo Pedro called on the international community to launch a criminal process against the US President on the American deadly strikes in the Caribbean targeting speedboats that Washington says were carrying narcotics to US shores.
Addressing the UNGA, the Social-Democrat Colombian leader critisised Trump for ‘giving the order’ on attacking the boats, resulting in the deaths of young people who were just trying to escape poverty, as he claimed.
‘They say that the Caribbean missiles were targeting drug traffickers, that’s a lie’, Pedro added.
US forces have been operating in the Caribbean Sea, in a maritime effort to combat narcotics trafficking to the US, with the White House accusing Venezuela, Colombia’s neighbour, of running drug cartels.
The Americans announced that since early September they have destroyed speedboats that appeared to have been carrying narcotics from Venezuela, killing 14 people.
Pedro said that a number of these victims might have been Colombian.
‘A criminal indictment must be launched against American officials, including Trump.’, the Colombian President said in his address.
While Colombia is the biggest cocaine exporter on the planet, Pedro pointed out that the drug lords are based in Miami, ‘right next door to the US President,’ who owns an estate in Florida.
The US and Colombia are allied countries, but their relations have progressively soured following Trump’s return to the White House.
Last week, Washington took Colombia off the list of partners in combatting drug trafficking.
