Burgas, a Bulgarian city on the Black Sea, will host the 71st Eurovision Song Contest on 11, 13 and 15 May 2027, the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and Bulgaria's public broadcaster announced today.
Semi-finals and final at Arena Burgas
The contest's semi-finals and final will take place at "Bulgaria's newest sports and entertainment facility, Arena Burgas, which opened in 2023," according to the organisers' announcement. The semi-finals will be held on Tuesday 11 May and Thursday 13 May, with the final on Saturday 15 May.
Hosting rights follow Bulgaria's first Eurovision win
Bulgarian public broadcaster BNT and the city of Burgas will host the contest following the victory of Bulgarian artist DARA, who won Eurovision 2026 in Vienna with the song "Bangaranga." It was the first time Bulgaria has won the contest.
Burgas selected over Sofia, Varna and Plovdiv
Burgas is Bulgaria's fourth-largest city. The capital, Sofia, along with Varna and Plovdiv, were also candidate cities. According to the announcement, "Burgas was ultimately selected for its strong overall proposal," citing sufficient capacity in accommodation, transport and international connectivity.
A Black Sea city of nearly 190,000
Located on the Black Sea coast, Burgas has beaches accessible on foot from the city centre and a population of nearly 190,000. It is one of the main gateways to Bulgaria's seaside resorts.
Arena Burgas capacity and tourism impact
Arena Burgas has 5,500 seats and can accommodate up to 15,000 people. Bulgaria's tourism sector, which contributes around 8% of GDP, is counting on the contest for a boost.
Eurovision draws tens of millions of television viewers across Europe and beyond each year, with a growing audience on social media as well.
