A tribute at the funeral of Costas Gavrielides, co-founder of Accept Cyprus

I am here today representing Queer Cyprus Association on behalf of Turkish speaking Cypriot Community.

We are deeply heartbroken by the unexpected loss of our friend , Costas.

Since the beginning of our struggle, Turkish Cypriot and Greek Cypriot LGBTI+ communities have worked very closely together for freedom and equality. Costas was one of the most prominent activists in the LGBTI+ community.

His courage will always live on and continue to shed light on our struggle. Costas believed deeply in a reunified Cyprus, and in the power of LGBTI+ rights to promote peace, reconciliation, and understanding among all communities on the island. In his memory, we will continue this work with the same commitment, courage, and hope.

We extend our deepest condolences to the family and friends of our dear Costas. His spirit will remain with us.

May he rest in eternal peace.
