Lightning-Triggered Forest Fires Brought Fully Under Control

Swift response prevents spread of two separate blazes in Karvounas and Evrychou areas.

Forest fires sparked by lightning strikes were brought fully under control on Friday, following rapid intervention by authorities.

According to the Department of Forests under the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment, the first fire broke out at 10:25 in the Karvounas area.

The blaze was contained by 10:40, preventing any spread. A total of 13 personnel responded with two fire engines. The fire was initially spotted by a passing citizen.

A second fire ignited later the same morning, at 10:50, in the Lachani area of the Evrychou community.

That fire was brought under full control by 11:00, also without spreading. Five forestry personnel, supported by one fire engine, were deployed to extinguish the blaze. It was detected by a tractor operator from the Department of Forests carrying out work in the area.
