Russian and Ukrainian delegations are due to meet in Abu Dhabi, in the United Arab Emirates, on 10 and 11 November for a new round of negotiations mediated by the **United States.
The announcement was made by US special envoy Steve Witkoff, who said the discussions would focus on post-war security arrangements, de-escalation measures, humanitarian issues and the next steps towards peace.
Moscow indicated in October that it was prepared to resume peace talks, which had largely stalled since the beginning of the year.
The most recent meeting involving Russian, Ukrainian and US representatives took place in Geneva in February but failed to produce a breakthrough, with both sides maintaining their positions as the war approaches its fifth year.
Focus on post-war security
According to Witkoff, the talks will address:
- Post-war security arrangements
- De-escalation measures
- Humanitarian efforts
- Next steps towards a peace settlement
The envoy also said US negotiators will travel to Brussels later this week for discussions with representatives from France, Germany, the United Kingdom, the European Union and NATO.
The meetings are expected to focus on security guarantees for Ukraine and the future security architecture of Europe following any eventual settlement.
Fighting continues
The diplomatic efforts come as hostilities continue on the ground.
Kyiv said on Monday that a Russian strike on a school being used as a humanitarian aid distribution centre killed at least 26 people.
The attack was reported as Russian forces resumed bombardments in the Kherson region after a rare local ceasefire that had allowed the evacuation of residents from the Russian-held town of Oleshky.
The Abu Dhabi talks will be closely watched as diplomats seek to determine whether there is any scope for progress after months of deadlock.
