Russian President Vladimir Putin discussed the conflict in Ukraine during a telephone call with Finnish President Alexander Stubb and Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre, the Kremlin said today.
According to a Kremlin statement, the three leaders welcomed an agreement to resume trilateral talks between Russia, Ukraine and the US in Abu Dhabi during the first half of November.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, for his part, said the leaders of Finland and Norway told Putin today that attacks on Ukraine’s energy facilities and infrastructure must be de-escalated.
“They clearly told the Russian leader that steps towards genuine de-escalation are needed regarding our energy sector and infrastructure,” Zelensky wrote in a Telegram post after speaking with the two allies.
Meanwhile, Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen said today on the DR network that she was “very cautious” about the communication between the Norwegian and Finnish leaders and Putin.
“I am very cautious about this Norwegian and Finnish initiative. There was no coordination with any of the rest of us,” Frederiksen said.
