French authorities are focusing on the possibility of a deliberate act after a regional train derailed in north-western France on Friday evening, a police source told AFP.
A section of rail was found lying across the tracks, prompting investigators to examine whether the derailment was caused deliberately.
Forty-four people injured
The regional TER train, carrying 186 passengers, derailed near the Normandy commune of Cléon at around 7.45pm local time, 8.45pm Cyprus time.
A total of 44 people were injured, including a young woman whose condition was described as serious.
The accident prompted a major emergency response involving 130 firefighters, five medical teams and 80 vehicles.
