King Haakon VIII of Norway drove his wife, Queen Mette-Marit, to hospital just hours after being sworn in before parliament, without the new queen at his side during the ceremony because of health issues.
The absence of Queen Mette-Marit from the accession ceremony sparked concern in Norway, as the 53-year-old continues to recover from a recent lung transplant.
Photographs published by Norwegian media showed the queen arriving at Oslo University Hospital in a car driven by King Haakon himself.
The images showed Mette-Marit, who is still recuperating from surgery, leaving the vehicle before entering the hospital.
According to the Norwegian news agency NTB, the king subsequently left the hospital on his own.
The hospital visit came only hours after Haakon VIII formally took the oath of office before the Norwegian parliament in a highly unusual day for the country's royal family.
