Tehran's foreign minister travels to Doha as Iran and the US exchange fresh strikes across the region.

The United States carried out a new round of strikes on Thursday targeting Iranian coastal defence systems and cruise missile storage and launch facilities on Greater Tunb Island, according to the US Central Command (CENTCOM).

CENTCOM said the 90-minute operation was aimed at degrading Iran's ability to attack commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.

Meanwhile, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi travelled to Qatar to pay tribute to the country's late former emir, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, Tehran announced.

Renewed hostilities

According to a statement from Iran's Foreign Ministry, Araghchi is also scheduled to meet Qatari officials and offer condolences following the death of the former emir, who ruled the Gulf state from 1995 to 2013 and died on Sunday at the age of 74.

The visit comes amid renewed hostilities between Iran and the United States, with both sides carrying out military strikes.

Iran has launched attacks against US targets in the region in retaliation for American air strikes on Iranian territory. Qatar, which has acted as a mediator between Washington and Tehran alongside Pakistan, hosts Al Udeid Air Base, the largest US military installation in the Middle East, and has become a key target of Iranian attacks.

Qatar's Foreign Ministry said on Sunday that it had intercepted Iranian missiles, marking the first such interception since the ceasefire agreed in April.

Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said on Sunday that it had targeted Al Udeid Air Base with ballistic missiles.
