Marius Borg Høiby, the son of Norway’s Crown Princess Mette-Marit from a previous relationship, has been sentenced to four years in prison after being convicted of two rapes, domestic violence and other offences.
The 29-year-old is the stepson of Crown Prince Haakon. He became part of the royal family’s wider circle in 2001, when his mother married the heir to the Norwegian throne, but he holds no royal title and has no official role in the royal household.
According to the Oslo court ruling, Høiby was found guilty of two of the four rape charges he faced and was acquitted on the other two. He was also convicted of offences linked to violence in a close relationship and other charges.
Høiby had pleaded not guilty to the most serious allegations, including the rape charges, while admitting to some lesser offences.
Prosecutors had sought a sentence of seven years and seven months. The court instead imposed a four-year prison term.
Høiby has the right to appeal the ruling.
