Trump says a deal with Iran could be signed within days, possibly in Europe, while Tehran insists no final agreement has been reached.

US President Donald Trump said today that a “very good deal” has been reached with Iran and added that it could be signed in Europe in the coming days, “once the documents are finalised.”

Speaking from the Oval Office, Trump suggested he may not attend the signing himself, but said it could take place over the weekend, possibly in the presence of US Vice President J.D. Vance.

“The Straits (of Hormuz) will officially open once we sign, which could happen soon, very soon, perhaps this weekend in Europe,” the US president said.

Trump also said he spoke on Thursday evening with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, and earlier with the leaders of Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and Kuwait, among others. He also planned to speak with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

According to Trump, the agreement ensures that Iran will never acquire nuclear weapons. “The most important thing is that we have a deal which ensures Iran will never obtain nuclear weapons, which was the main objective of everything we had to go through,” he said.

Earlier today, Trump announced on Truth Social that he had cancelled planned attacks on Iran, saying a deal with Tehran appears imminent. “Based on the fact that discussions with the Islamic Republic of Iran have been brought to the highest level of Iranian leadership and approved, I have, as President of the United States of America, cancelled the scheduled strikes and bombings against Iran this evening,” he wrote.

Since mid-March, Trump has repeatedly claimed that a deal with Iran to end the conflict is close.

Iran: No decision yet

Iran has not yet taken a decision on a deal with the United States and does not intend to retreat from its “red lines,” Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said on Thursday, according to IRNA.

He added that comments about the timing and location of a potential agreement are speculative and that nothing has been finalised.

Baghaei said that a large part of the draft agreement had been agreed upon, but that the United States had repeatedly changed its positions during the talks.
