US President Donald Trump issued fresh threats against Tehran on Wednesday, warning that the United States would launch severe military action against Iran if a peace agreement is not finalised.
Speaking to reporters at the White House, Trump said the US would respond forcefully following the reported downing of an Apache helicopter in the Strait of Hormuz by Iranian armed forces.
“We will attack them, we will attack them very hard, we will continue the bombing,” Trump said.
The US president also reiterated that Iran would face military strikes later on Wednesday.
Addressing ongoing negotiations with Tehran, Trump said Washington was seeking a meaningful and effective agreement, while accusing the Iranian leadership of failing to negotiate in good faith.
“We want a deal that makes sense, we want a deal that works,” he said, adding that Tehran was “mocking us”.
Trump further stated that the Islamic Republic had already agreed not to acquire nuclear weapons, but said the agreement had yet to be formally signed.
His remarks come amid continued diplomatic efforts aimed at reaching a settlement over Iran’s nuclear programme and broader regional security concerns.
