The Cyprus Football Association (CFA) said it has aligned itself with a common UEFA position declaring that the FIFA president can no longer continue in office following recent developments within world football's governing structures.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the CFA said it had actively participated in UEFA's institutional processes, including an extraordinary meeting held on 30 July 2026.
At that meeting, the 55 UEFA member associations unanimously rejected FIFA's proposal to sell rights related to its major competitions to external investors, the statement said.
The CFA added that it remains committed to UEFA's common position and has also adopted a new joint stance agreed unanimously in Monaco on Thursday, 27 August, by representatives of national associations serving on UEFA's Executive Committee, European representatives on the FIFA Council and presidents of UEFA member associations.
"Under the weight of what has taken place and under today's conditions, the CFA finds that the necessary prerequisites are no longer in place for the President of FIFA to continue exercising his duties," the association said.
"The necessary relationship of trust and collegiality between the leadership of FIFA, the Confederations, the National Associations and the FIFA Council has been irreparably damaged."
The CFA said decisions taken in the coming period would be critical and must serve exclusively the interests and protection of football, while safeguarding its unity, credibility and institutional character.
