Averof Neophytou has secured the support of senior Democratic Rally (DISY) officials and members of the party's parliamentary group as he seeks the party's nomination for the 2028 presidential election.
The development comes a day after the former DISY leader submitted more than 3,000 signatures of support, well above the 500 signatures required under the party's constitution.
Support from party leadership
According to a list obtained by Politis, those who signed Neophytou's nomination papers include:
- Annita Demetriou, President of DISY and Speaker of the House.
- Efthymios Diplaros, Deputy President.
- Vice-Presidents Yiannis Karousos, George Karoullas and Savia Orphanidou.

The candidacy has also been backed by DISY's two Members of the European Parliament:

In total, the list includes 17 party officials, indicating substantial support for Neophytou among DISY's senior ranks as the internal contest gathers momentum.
Neophytou submitted more than 3,000 signatures at party headquarters on Thursday, seeking to demonstrate the breadth of support behind his candidacy ahead of the party's internal vote.
