he publisher of Alithia, Frixos Koulermos, was reportedly present at the meeting at DISY headquarters that culminated on Thursday in Annita Demetriou’s withdrawal from the race for the party’s nomination in the 2028 presidential election.
According to media reports, Koulermos was present from the beginning of the meeting, which started at around 14:00 on the fifth floor of DISY’s central offices.
The meeting initially involved DISY president Demetriou and former party president Averof Neophytou. Koulermos reportedly remained at the meeting after George Pamporidis arrived shortly before 15:00.
He was seen leaving the party headquarters after the meeting concluded.
Reported calls for Demetriou to withdraw
According to the same reports, Koulermos had in recent days sent messages to the DISY leadership calling for a significant decision and urging Demetriou to withdraw from the contest for the party’s nomination in the interests of unity.
His reported intervention has been described as providing support for Neophytou during the initial stages of Thursday’s meeting, when the discussions were moving towards their eventual outcome.
The meeting ultimately ended with Demetriou announcing that she was withdrawing her interest in securing the DISY nomination, saying that safeguarding the unity of the party was her priority.
Neophytou and Pamporidis remain potential contenders in the internal nomination process, although their participation has yet to be formally confirmed.
