Democratic Rally (DISY) President Annita Demetriou has appointed Hera Emilianidou as head of the party's Migration Portfolio within the Council for Monitoring Government Work, confirming earlier reporting by Politis.
The appointment forms part of an ongoing effort by the party leadership to bring individuals from broader civil society with specialised knowledge and professional experience into its policy structures.
According to DISY, Ms Demetriou expressed confidence that Emilianidou's expertise, experience and willingness to contribute would strengthen the development of evidence-based policy proposals and the monitoring of government action in the field of migration.
The DISY president said the inclusion of professionals from civil society with specialist knowledge enhances the work of the Council for Monitoring Government Work and contributes to the formulation of responsible and implementable policy proposals for the benefit of society and the country.

For her part, Hera Emilianidou thanked Ms Demetriou for the confidence shown in her and said she was assuming her new responsibilities with a sense of duty and a commitment to meaningful contribution.
She said her objective would be to help develop comprehensive and practical proposals on migration policy while supporting efforts to address the challenges facing the country in this area.
Professional background
Hera Emilianidou is a lawyer and partner at the law firm A. & A.K. Emilianides, K. Katsaros and Associates LLC.
She is a graduate of the Faculty of Law at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and holds an LL.M. in European Law and European Integration from the University of Leicester.
Emilianidou has been a member of the Cyprus Bar Association since 2007 and has served as Secretary of its Council since 2023. She also served on the board of the Nicosia Bar Association between 2020 and 2023.
From 2015 to 2019, she taught at the School of Law of the University of Nicosia and is a founding member of the legal information platform Dikaiosyni.
