Tangible progress key, Christodoulides underlines

Now is the time to transform the momentum into tangible progress that forges an ever-closer relationship between the EU and the Western Balkans, said the President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, in a post on X on Friday, referring to his participation in the EU-Western Balkans Summit held in Montenegro.

According to President Christodoulides, “holding this Summit in the region, just six months after the Brussels meeting, is in itself a powerful message, and a clear demonstration of the EU’s continued, strong commitment to deepening engagement with the Western Balkans.”

“As Council Presidency, Cyprus has placed the region, and its European perspective, high on its priorities. Not in words but in deeds. Last year, I started my trips in preparation for the Presidency, from the Western Balkans, and right here, in Montenegro. I said it then, and I will repeat it today – now is the time to seize the momentum, transform it into tangible progress that forges an ever-closer relationship between the EU and the region,” he noted.

“The time for promises is gone. It is the time for action that brings to life what we all say – the Western Balkans belong in the EU. European integration will not be complete as long as the region remains outside the EU,” he concluded.
