Pancyprian Exams Begin on Monday With Medicine Again the Top Choice

A total of 5,139 candidates will sit the 2026 access exams for public universities in Cyprus and Greece, with the University of Cyprus Medical School attracting the highest number of first-choice applications.

 

The Pancyprian Access Examinations begin on Monday, June 8, with Modern Greek, the compulsory first paper for all candidates. The examination period will run until Friday, June 26.

According to figures released by the Examinations Service, 5,139 candidates have applied this year for access to public universities in Cyprus and Greece. Of these, 4,798 are final-year pupils and 341 are previous graduates.

The most popular first-choice department remains the University of Cyprus Medical School, selected by 604 candidates. It is followed by Computer Science at the University of Cyprus, with 347 first-choice applications, Accounting and Finance at the University of Cyprus, with 339, and Psychology at the University of Cyprus, with 297.

The Examinations Service said 413 candidates have applied for access to military schools, while 642 candidates requested examination accommodations.

Exams to Run Until June 26

After Modern Greek on June 8, the schedule continues on Tuesday, June 9, with Music Studies. On Wednesday, June 10, candidates will sit Economics, Chemistry and Technology for technical schools.

No examinations will be held on Thursday, June 11, due to a school holiday. English will follow on Friday, June 12, while Music Performance and Interpretation is scheduled for Saturday, June 13.

The second week includes Mathematics, Ancient Greek and technical school examinations on Monday, June 15. Spanish, Visual Applications and further technical school exams will take place on Tuesday, June 16, followed by Computer Science, four-hour English for technical schools, Graphic Arts and practical tests on Wednesday, June 17.

Italian, Health Education, Theatre Studies and practical tests are scheduled for Thursday, June 18. Physics, History and additional technical school examinations will be held on Friday, June 19.

The final week begins on Monday, June 22, with Biology, Latin and Architectural Drawing for technical schools. Accounting, Design and Technology, German and technical school technology exams will follow on Tuesday, June 23.

Russian, Freehand and Perspective Drawing, Turkish and four-hour Physics for technical schools are scheduled for Wednesday, June 24. Architectural and Technical Drawing and French will take place on Thursday, June 25. The examination period ends on Friday, June 26, with Common Core Mathematics.

Candidate Numbers by Subject

Modern Greek has the highest number of candidates, with all 5,139 applicants sitting the paper. It is followed by Mathematics, with 2,826 candidates, Physics with 2,224, English with 2,171 and Common Core Mathematics with 2,006.

Other major subjects include Biology, with 1,515 candidates, Economics with 1,388, Chemistry with 812, History with 573, Computer Science with 572 and Accounting with 519.

The Examinations Service also recorded 485 candidates for Design and Technology, 333 for four-hour English for technical schools, 251 for Latin, 233 for Ancient Greek, 223 for the special practical test, 171 for Freehand and Perspective Drawing, 162 for Russian, 153 for Digital Electronics II for technical schools and 125 for Architectural and Technical Drawing.

Top Departments by First Choice

The 20 most popular departments based on first-choice applications are led by the University of Cyprus Medical School, with 604 candidates.

Computer Science follows with 347, Accounting and Finance with 339, Psychology with 297 and Architecture, an integrated master’s degree programme, with 190.

Business Administration and Public Administration received 186 first-choice applications, Primary Education 183, Occupational Therapy at the Cyprus University of Technology 173, Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering 151 and Law 150.

Other high-demand programmes include Mathematics and Statistics, with 149 first-choice applications, Nursing at the Cyprus University of Technology with 139, Biological Sciences with 126, Rehabilitation Sciences in Speech and Language Therapy at the Cyprus University of Technology with 121, and Electrical and Computer Engineering with 117.

Integrated Marketing Communication at the Cyprus University of Technology received 116 first-choice applications, Economics received 84, the Hellenic Army Academy Arms Department 83, Civil and Environmental Engineering 80, and Tourism and Hospitality Management at the Cyprus University of Technology also 80.
