DISY deputy president Efthymios Diplaros said the party expects answers over how details of the threatening email became public while the case was under police investigation.

DISY has raised concerns over the handling of a threatening email sent to House President and party leader Annita Demetriou, after details of the case appeared on social media shortly after the incident was reported to the authorities.

Deputy President of DISY Efthymios Diplaros publicly expressed the party’s dissatisfaction and concern, saying answers were needed over how the matter was made public while it was already being investigated by police.

Speaking to Omega TV, Diplaros said the email was received on 3 June at the party’s email account and that the Cybercrime Subdivision was immediately informed. Investigators visited DISY offices and carried out the necessary checks, he said, but the information became public before 24 hours had passed since the complaint was filed.

Diplaros said only a small number of people knew about the message, leaving clear criticism directed at the police over the leak. He said those who had access to its content were limited.

He added that the issue touches on public trust in institutions, particularly the security services. DISY, he said, expects explanations from the police leadership and wants to know whether responsibilities arise and who may bear them.

“At this point, our concern is how this became public. Woe betide us if we cannot trust the security services,” Diplaros said.

At the same time, he stressed that the main priority remains the assessment of the threat and the adoption of all necessary measures to protect Demetriou. He noted that this was not the first time the House President had been targeted with threatening messages.

Police said the case is being investigated with due seriousness. Police Chief Themistos Arnaoutis has also been in contact with Demetriou over the handling of the case and the security issues arising from it.
