A yellow weather warning for strong thunderstorms has been issued in Cyprus, with the alert in force from 12pm to 6pm on Wednesday.
Isolated strong thunderstorms are expected to affect mainly northern areas, the mountains and inland regions, with hail possible. Winds may strengthen and change direction during storms, while rainfall intensity could locally exceed 35 millimetres per hour.
Low pressure brings unsettled weather
Low pressure is beginning to affect the region, bringing increasingly cloudy conditions and a greater likelihood of rain and thunderstorms.
Wednesday will initially be partly cloudy, with isolated rain expected in coastal areas and a possible isolated thunderstorm in the southwest.
Conditions will gradually become mainly cloudy, with local rain and isolated thunderstorms developing particularly after midday over the mountains, inland areas and the north. Rain or thunderstorms may also reach eastern areas.
Hail is possible during thunderstorms.
Winds will blow mainly from the southwest to northwest at 3 to 4 Beaufort, gradually strengthening along the coasts to 4 to 5 Beaufort.
The sea will generally be slightly rough.
Temperatures will reach around 30C inland, 28C along the coasts and 18C in the higher mountains.
Rain possible overnight
Wednesday night will remain mainly cloudy, with isolated rain expected along the coasts.
An isolated thunderstorm is also possible, particularly in the west and north.
Winds will remain mainly southwesterly to northwesterly at 3 to 4 Beaufort. The sea will initially be slightly rough before gradually becoming temporarily calm to slightly rough.
Temperatures will fall to around 19C inland and along the coasts and 8C in the higher mountains.
Storms to continue through Saturday
Mainly cloudy conditions will continue on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
Isolated rain or thunderstorms are expected along coastal areas during the morning, before becoming more widespread and intense, particularly after midday.
Local rain and isolated thunderstorms are forecast, with hail possible during storms.
Friday is expected to bring the most significant conditions, with some rainfall and thunderstorms potentially becoming intense or prolonged.
Temperatures will gradually fall through Friday before seeing little significant change on Saturday, remaining below normal seasonal levels.
