Inflation in Cyprus moderated to 2.9% in July 2026, according to figures released on Thursday by the Statistical Service of Cyprus.
The annual inflation rate had stood at 3.1% in June 2026.
Housing, transport and food record largest increases
The largest year-on-year price increases were recorded in:
- Housing, water supply, electricity, gas and other fuels: 7.21%
- Transport: 5.96%
- Food and non-alcoholic beverages: 4.94%
Clothing prices fall sharply
The biggest annual decrease was recorded in clothing and footwear, where prices fell by 5.86%.
Prices also declined in:
- Information and communication: -3.26%
- Furnishings, household equipment and routine household maintenance: -0.98%
Compared with June 2026, the largest monthly changes were observed in:
- Clothing and footwear: -10.7%
- Housing, water supply, electricity, gas and other fuels: +1.2%
Impact on the consumer price index
In annual terms, the categories making the largest positive contribution to the Consumer Price Index (CPI) in July 2026 compared with July 2025 were:
- Restaurants and accommodation services: 3.14
- Recreation, sport and culture: 2.82
- Alcoholic beverages and tobacco: 1.86
The largest negative contributions were recorded in:
- Health: -2.62
- Information and communication: -1.69
- Clothing and footwear: -1.05
Monthly movements
Compared with June 2026, the categories with the greatest impact on the CPI were:
- Clothing and footwear: -0.68
- Housing, water supply, electricity, gas and other fuels: +0.15
- Food and non-alcoholic beverages: -0.09
Recreation services lead annual increase
Among individual services, recreation services made the largest positive contribution to the annual change in the index, with an impact of 2.93.
The largest negative contribution came from mobile communication services, with an effect of -1.53.
