Inflation in Cyprus rose to 3.1% in June, according to new figures from the Statistical Service, with prices in transport, fuel, leisure and food putting the sharpest strain on consumers' wallets.
The Consumer Price Index rose by 0.26 points in June 2026, reaching 103.00 points, up from 102.74 points in May 2026.
Inflation climbed at a rate of 3.1% in June, compared with 2.6% in May and 2.8% in April.
Compared with June 2025, the sharpest increases were recorded in transport (8.3%), housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels (5.6%), leisure, sport and culture (5.3%), and food and non-alcoholic beverages (5.1%). Clothing and footwear was the only category to fall, down 7.7%.
Compared with May 2026, the largest movements were in housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels, up 1.2%, and leisure, sport and culture, up 1.0%.
Among economic categories, the sharpest year-on-year increases were in petroleum products, up 21.2%, and agricultural products, up 9.0%, while the largest fall was in industrial products, down 1.0%. Month-on-month, the biggest increase was in electricity and water, up 4.1%, while the largest fall was in petroleum products, down 1.1%.
Breaking down the impact
Restaurants and accommodation services had the largest positive effect on the change in the CPI in June 2026 compared with June 2025, contributing 3.15 points, followed by leisure, sport and culture at 2.91 points and alcoholic beverages and tobacco at 1.86 points. The largest negative effects came from health, at minus 2.62 points, information and communication, at minus 1.73 points, and clothing and footwear, at minus 1.33 points.
Month-on-month, the biggest contributors to the change in the CPI in June 2026 compared with May 2026 were housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels, at 0.14 points, and restaurants and accommodation services, at 0.09 points.
Recreation services had the largest positive effect on the annual change in the index, contributing 2.97 points, while mobile communication services had the largest negative effect, at minus 1.53 points.
For the first half of 2026, inflation stands at 1.7%.
