The body found in Paphos State Forest and believed to be that of missing 75-year-old Erato Athanasiou showed no external injuries or wounds immediately indicating criminal activity, according to initial forensic findings following a post-mortem examination.
A Police spokesperson told the Cyprus News Agency (CNA) that a clearer picture is expected once the results of scientific tests on samples taken from the body during the examination are received and the forensic report is completed.
DNA test to establish identity
According to the spokesperson, the identity of the body will be established scientifically and conclusively through DNA testing.
Police investigations by the Morphou Police continue, with officers taking statements as part of the inquiry.
Woman had been missing since 23 August
Athanasiou, who is initially believed to be the person whose body was found, lived in Tsakkistra with her husband.
She had been missing since 11am on Sunday, 23 August.
The body was discovered on 3 September at the location known as “Kallinikos”, within Paphos State Forest, by officers from the Department of Forests.
Further conclusions on the circumstances of the death are expected once the scientific test results are available and the forensic examination has been completed.
