Fifth Arrest in Nicosia 230kg Drug Seizure Case

A 30-year-old man is due in court after cannabis, cocaine, firearms and suspected explosive devices were seized.

 

Police arrested a 30-year-old man on Sunday under an outstanding court warrant linked to an investigation into the seizure of more than 230kg of drugs, weapons and explosives in Nicosia.

He is the fifth person arrested in connection with the case. Four other men, one aged 34, one aged 27 and two aged 26, remain in custody as investigations continue.

Suspect due before court

According to a police statement, the 30-year-old was placed in custody and is expected to appear before Nicosia District Court on Monday for a remand hearing.

The Nicosia Drug Law Enforcement Unit (YKAN) is continuing its inquiries.

Drugs, weapons and cash seized

Items seized in connection with the investigation include:

  • 167kg of dried cannabis plant matter
  • 62kg of cocaine
  • 4.5kg of cannabis resin
  • One pistol, one revolver and a replica pistol
  • Two improvised explosive devices, possibly containing low-yield explosive material
  • A number of 9mm rounds
  • €12,765 in cash
  • Two sheets of paper believed to have been soaked in narcotic substances
  • 381 electronic cigarettes believed to contain narcotic substances
