Residents and visitors headed to the Protaras seafront before dawn on Sunday, 23 August, for an event organised by the Municipality of Paralimni-Deryneia.

Held at the First Sunrise Viewpoint on the coastal promenade, the event combined the sunrise with music and a free Pilates session, offering participants a different start to their day against the backdrop of the Protaras coastline.

Highlighting Protaras’ coastal identity

According to the municipality, the event aimed to highlight the area’s distinctive identity and promote experiences connected to the natural environment, wellbeing and the coastal character of Protaras.

The Mayor of Paralimni-Deryneia thanked residents and visitors who responded to the invitation and arrived at the viewpoint early in the morning.

“It is special to welcome Europe’s first sunrise together, at one of the most beautiful locations on the Protaras Riviera. We warmly thank everyone who shared this moment with us,” he said.

Part of a wider tourism plan

The municipality said the event formed part of its broader tourism strategy, which seeks to showcase the Protaras seafront through themed activities and experiences for residents and visitors.
