The MountMed Institute, coordinator of the European project “Mountain Games: A Celebration of Sports, Culture and Inclusion”, has announced a partnership with Wizz Air aimed at improving accessibility and international participation.
The Erasmus+ Sport-funded initiative will culminate in a public event in Troodos from 23 to 26 September 2026, during the 12th European Week of Sport.
Supporting travel from ten countries
Through the partnership, Wizz Air will support travel to Cyprus for athletes, volunteers, scientists and visitors from the ten European countries participating in the project consortium, drawing on the airline’s extensive network of destinations.
The involvement of an international airline is expected to attract more participants and visitors from across Europe. It will also support the event’s objectives of promoting inclusion, sustainable mobility and mountainous Cyprus as a destination for sport and culture.
Partners highlight accessibility
“We are delighted to support Mountain Games Cyprus 2026 as the event’s official airline,” said Olivia Harangozo, corporate communications manager at Wizz Air.
“We believe in the power of sport to bring people and places together, and we are pleased to help connect Europe more closely with mountainous Cyprus, while supporting an initiative that promotes healthy living and the sustainable development of mountain regions.”
Stavros Kazamias, executive director of the MountMed Institute and project coordinator, described the agreement as an important step for the event.
“The partnership with Wizz Air enables us to bring athletes, visitors and partners from across Europe closer together. Accessibility is crucial to the success of an event with such a broad European character,” he said.
