Few details have emerged about an alleged attack at a private residence in Limassol, where a 44-year-old Iranian man was injured while socialising with two other men. Investigators are seeking to establish what happened, but the two men later taken into custody have provided no information about the incident.
The incident and the man’s injuries
The three men, all of Iranian origin, were at the 44-year-old’s home when the alleged attack occurred under circumstances that remain unclear. The 37-year-old is the injured man’s brother, while police are investigating the roles of both suspects.
The 44-year-old was taken by ambulance to Limassol General Hospital, where he was found to have lacerations to his head and neck, as well as an injury to his nose. He was admitted for further treatment and discharged on Tuesday morning.
Two men found carrying knives
After assessing information, police located the 30-year-old while he was driving in Limassol. A knife was found in his possession during a search, and he was arrested for the offence of carrying a knife.
The 37-year-old was located shortly afterwards in the Limassol district. Officers also found a knife in his possession, which was confiscated, and arrested him for the same offence.
Police subsequently secured judicial arrest warrants against both men in connection with the case. They were placed in custody while investigations continued.
Suspects provide no information
During questioning by Limassol CID, the two suspects did not cooperate with investigators or provide information about the events preceding the alleged attack.
Police have yet to establish what caused the incident or the sequence of events that led to the 44-year-old’s injuries.
The two suspects are expected to appear before Limassol District Court on Thursday, when police will seek orders for their remand.
