Basketball influencer Matt "MK" Kiatipis will visit Cyprus for three appearances in Nicosia, Paralimni and Larnaca, headlining a charity basketball challenge supporting paediatric cancer research.

Internationally recognised 1-on-1 basketball player and content creator Matt "MK" Kiatipis will make his first public visit to Cyprus in early September, taking part in a series of events in Nicosia, Paralimni and Larnaca, culminating in a charity initiative supporting paediatric cancer research.

A Canadian professional basketball player and digital creator of Greek descent, MK has built a global following through his competitive one-on-one streetball challenges, high-energy performances and viral social media content. With millions of followers across Instagram and TikTok, he has become one of the most recognisable figures in the world of street basketball, inspiring a new generation of athletes through his competitive approach and passion for the game.

Three stops across Cyprus

MK's Cyprus tour will begin on 1 September with an opening event from 6pm to 9pm at the Costas Papaellinas Outdoor Courts of Keravnos Strovolou in Nicosia.

His second appearance will take place on 3 September from 6pm to 9pm at Palataki Arena, home of Enosis Neon Paralimniou.

The final stop will be on 5 September from 2pm to 4pm at Kition Arena in Larnaca as part of the ECOMMBX International Youth Basketball Tournament Vol. 2 – The Eternals.

Powered by ECOMMBX and organised in collaboration with Chalkanor Suns, the tournament will be hosted and supported by Petrolina AEK Larnaca and held under the auspices of the Cyprus Basketball Federation, with CyprusBasket.net serving as media partner.

Petrolina AEK Larnaca is also supporting MK's special appearance at Kition Arena.

'Beat the King' challenge

The highlight of MK's appearance in Larnaca will be the special "Beat the King" one-on-one challenge, giving fans the opportunity to step onto the court and compete directly against him.

Spectators will be able to enter the draw by making a donation to the Nicholas Zoe Foundation, the tournament's charity partner.

Donors will receive entry coupons according to the value of their donation. Coupons will be selected at random on the day of the event, with successful participants announced on the spot and invited to face MK in a unique basketball experience.

Supporting childhood cancer research

The initiative forms part of Golden September, the international awareness campaign dedicated to childhood cancer.

Through his visit, MK will support the Nicholas Zoe Foundation's efforts to raise awareness about childhood cancer and paediatric sarcoma, advance pioneering paediatric cancer research and honour the memory of Nicholas Artemiou, a young boy whose love for basketball continues to inspire action and hope.

Organisers say the event combines elite streetball entertainment with a meaningful social cause.

The message behind the initiative is that every contribution matters in the fight against childhood cancer.

Who is MK?

Matt Kiatipis, 25, is a Canadian professional basketball player and digital creator known worldwide for his highly competitive one-on-one streetball "takeovers", high-energy challenges and strong social media presence.

He has amassed more than five million combined followers across Instagram and TikTok, while his streetball videos regularly attract millions of views.

Of Greek descent and raised in Canada, MK initially played football before turning to basketball following a collarbone injury. Rather than following traditional basketball pathways in North America, he built an international audience through outdoor-court takeovers and viral one-on-one contests.

On the court, he often embraces the role of the "villain" and is known for saying:

"I'm not trying to be anyone's friend."

Off the court, however, he focuses on encouraging young athletes to compete fearlessly, remain disciplined and enjoy the game.

His stated mission is to help make one-on-one basketball even bigger worldwide.

Why the visit matters

Organisers say MK's first public visit to Cyprus is significant not only because of his international profile but also because of the cause attached to the event.

The youth tournament supports the Nicholas Zoe Foundation, which funds groundbreaking paediatric cancer research in memory of a young boy who loved basketball.

The tournament aims to combine sporting spectacle with community impact through the "Beat the King" challenge and fundraising activities.

As organisers put it:

"This crown belongs to every child fighting cancer. Every pass, every shot counts."

Admission to all events is free and can be secured here, with organisers expected to announce further details about attendance, the "Beat the King" challenge and the full tournament schedule in the coming weeks.
