A stronger police presence is planned across the main road network, tourist areas and busy public spaces between Friday and Sunday as part of measures for the August 15 weekend. Officers will focus on road safety, crime prevention and public order.
Road checks focus on serious offences
Police officers will be stationed at key points on the road network to manage traffic where necessary and conduct frequent checks.
Particular attention will be paid to offences linked to serious and fatal collisions, including driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, speeding, dangerous overtaking, failure to use seat belts or protective helmets, using a mobile phone while driving, and dangerous or careless driving.
Additional patrols in busy areas
Motorised and foot patrols will also be increased in cities and rural areas to prevent property offences, including burglaries and thefts.
Additional security measures will be introduced in areas attracting large numbers of people, including busy shopping streets, popular public spaces and holiday resorts.
