Affected communities will be notified after land clearance and firebreak grants exceeded their allocated amounts.

The Interior Ministry said it was aware that several communities had exceeded the grants provided for clearing agricultural land and creating firebreaks. The announcement followed statements made on Thursday by the President of the Miliou Community Council.

Support for affected communities

The ministry said it had examined possible ways of covering the additional costs, citing its commitment to supporting communities and strengthening their preparedness for potential wildfires.

The affected communities will be informed of the ministry’s decision in the coming days, the announcement added.
