Volt parliamentary candidate Makarios Drousiotis has made serious allegations of political interference, backstage control of the police and attempts to target him, claiming that an arrest warrant had been issued against him but was ultimately not executed.
According to his claims, around mid‑April police allegedly issued an arrest warrant against him following what he described as “political direction” from the Presidential Palace. He said both the information and the charges were leaked to the media, while also referring to public statements by DIKO leader Nikolas Papadopoulos calling for his punishment over the spread of false news.
Drousiotis alleges that authorities eventually backed down due to fears of public reaction, describing an organised effort to discredit him through leaks. He also links the case to an upcoming report on Mafia State and the FOCUS case, arguing that his potential presence in parliament would, as he claims, complicate alleged attempts at a cover‑up.
In his post, he names former President Nicos Anastasiades as the figure “pulling the strings from behind the scenes.” He also refers to President Nikos Christodoulides, linking him to the case of late businessman Andreas Vgenopoulos and the investigations surrounding FOCUS.
At the same time, he cites previous police investigations into the movement of hundreds of millions of euros through Focus Maritime Corp and another related company from Laiki Bank, claiming that the cost was ultimately borne by taxpayers, haircut depositors and bondholders.
Finally, he calls on citizens, ahead of the elections, to choose between those who, as he puts it, “take risks for the collective good” and a “corrupt system,” noting that Volt Cyprus was created to combat corruption and strengthen the rule of law.
