Cyprus remains in the lowest travel risk category for Israeli visitors, according to a new assessment published on Sunday by Israel's National Security Council ahead of the Jewish holidays and the Jewish New Year.
Cyprus is among the most popular destinations for Israeli travellers, alongside Greece, the United States, Italy and the United Arab Emirates.
The National Security Council clarified that the assessment does not represent any changes to existing travel advisories, but is intended to encourage increased vigilance.
Higher risks identified in region
The most serious threats are identified in countries close to Iran or within the wider region, with particular reference to Turkey, Azerbaijan and the United Arab Emirates.
Jordan, Qatar, Somalia and Egypt, including the Sinai Peninsula, remain at Level 4, with travellers advised to avoid these destinations.
The council urged Israelis travelling abroad to maintain a low profile, avoid openly displaying Israeli or Jewish symbols and refrain from posting their real-time location on social media.
Those who have served in the Israel Defense Forces were advised to remove or conceal related information from their social media accounts.
Travellers were also advised to avoid demonstrations and political confrontations with strangers.
Iran and militant groups remain key concern
According to the assessment, Iran and organisations it supports continue to pose the main global terrorist threat to Israeli and Jewish targets.
Hamas is also seeking to establish terrorist infrastructure in Europe and elsewhere, while Islamic State and Al-Qaeda continue to call for attacks.
The National Security Council said that since 7 October 2023, 25 Israelis and Jewish people have been killed abroad in terrorist attacks carried out by individual assailants.
