Olympiacos captured their fourth EuroLeague title after defeating Real Madrid 92-85 in a captivating final at the Telekom Dome.
In a high-stakes encounter played on an innovative glass floor, the Piraeus team overcame a resilient Real Madrid squad that competed fiercely despite lacking a traditional centre. The victory marked the culmination of a historic continental campaign for the Reds.
Fournier and Peters lead the charge
The final proved to be a tactical battle with shifting momentum. Real Madrid established an early ten-point lead in the opening quarter, driven by a spectacular first-half performance from Trey Lyles, who scored 24 points. Olympiacos responded strongly in the second period, narrowing the deficit to just one point at halftime.
Evan Fournier spearheaded the offensive effort for the champions, anchoring the team during critical stretches to finish with 20 points, four rebounds and four assists. Alec Peters, who earned the Final Four Most Valuable Player award, contributed a crucial 16 points and seven rebounds.
Decisive final quarter
The Spanish giants regained control in the third period, but Olympiacos executed a disciplined final quarter, outscoring their opponents 31-20. Forward Sasha Vezenkov delivered pivotal baskets in the closing minutes, finishing the night with 12 points.
Aside from Lyles, Real Madrid found scoring options through Mario Hezonja, who contributed 19 points, and Andres Feliz, who added 13. However, the Spanish side ultimately fell short against the defensive pressure applied by the Greek champions in the final minutes.
The quarter scores reflected the intense nature of the match, ending 16-26, 27-18, 15-21 and 31-20.
