A serious case of gender-based violence has been reported in the north, with a man accused of violently assaulting his wife in Mia Milia, causing multiple injuries, including a ruptured eardrum in her left ear.
According to the Turkish Cypriot press and the local "police," the incident occurred on 17 July following a verbal argument inside the couple's home.
The suspect is alleged to have struck his wife on various parts of her body and slapped her twice on the left ear.
The complaint was filed on 10 August, and the man was arrested the same day.
During his appearance before a "court," the suspect reportedly expressed remorse for his actions.
"Judge" Zehra Yalkut Bilgeç ordered that the suspect be released pending trial under a number of conditions, including:
- A ban on leaving the occupied areas.
- A cash guarantee of 100,000 Turkish lira.
- Two guarantors, each signing guarantees worth 700,000 Turkish lira.
The case remains under judicial examination.
