Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, formerly Prince Andrew, was arrested this morning on suspicion of misconduct in public office.
The unprecedented arrest of the royal on his 66th birthday by Thames Valley Police officers, occurred at his current residence, Wood Farm on the Sandringham Estate in Norfolk. He is currently being questioned by officers, 'under caution'.
Andrew, King Charles' brother, who was recently stripped of all his titles, is being held at a Thames Valley Police Precinct, which issued a statement confirming the arrest 'of a man in his sixties from Norfolk', who will not be named as per national guidelines.
Police are advising the media not to release any information that might be in contempt of court.
The arrest follows a review of millions of documents, the Epstein files, recently released by U.S. authorities.
The specific focus is on claims that Andrew shared confidential government documents and sensitive information with convited paedophile Jeffrey Epstein, while serving as the UK's special representative for international trade and investment between 2001 and 2011.
Investigators are currently conducting searches at addresses in Berkshire (near Andrew's former home at Royal Lodge) and Norfolk.
Background Context
Andrew, who was 8th in line to the throne, was formally stripped of his royal titles, including "Prince" and "Duke of York," by King Charles III in October 2025 following previous scandals.
Prime Minister Keir Starmer commented shortly before the arrest was reported that "nobody is above the law". Buckingham Palace has previously stated it would cooperate with any police inquiry.
Andrew has consistently and strenuously denied all accusations of wrongdoing regarding his relationship with Epstein.
