Pink Floyd have announced a new compilation album titled 8-Tracks, bringing together eight songs recorded between 1971 and 1979 from some of the group’s most influential releases. The album will be released on 5 July through Sony Music and will be available on vinyl, CD and digital streaming platforms.

Compilation from the band’s classic era

The collection features songs drawn from several major Pink Floyd albums, including Meddle, Obscured by Clouds, The Dark Side of the Moon, Wish You Were Here and The Wall.

Tracks included in the compilation are One of These Days, Wot’s… Uh the Deal, Money, Another Brick in the Wall, Part 2, Wish You Were Here, Time and Comfortably Numb.

The album also includes an extended version of Pigs on the Wing, a track originally released on the 1977 album Animals. The extended version was previously available only on the 8-track cartridge edition of the album.

Continuous listening experience

The tracklist has been curated by Steven Wilson. Using sound effects derived from the original multitrack recordings, the album has been arranged to create a continuous listening experience in keeping with Pink Floyd’s traditional album format.

According to the official description, 8-Tracks is intended as “a starting point for new listeners to discover the depth and breadth of Pink Floyd’s peerless album catalogue”, while also offering longtime fans a carefully curated overview of the band’s most influential period.

Latest release in Floyd catalogue

The compilation follows a long series of Pink Floyd collections, including Relics and A Collection of Great Dance Songs.

Last month the band also announced the release of the live album Pink Floyd Live from the Los Angeles Sports Arena, April 26th, 1975. The recording will be issued as a quadruple clear-vinyl edition for Record Store Day on 18 April, followed by a double CD release on 24 April.

Pink Floyd are widely regarded as one of the most successful and influential bands in the history of rock music.
