Rain, Hail, Snow and Strong Winds Forecast Across Cyprus

Weather expected to improve gradually later in the day while dust returns to the atmosphere from Wednesday

A low-pressure system is currently affecting Cyprus, bringing unsettled weather conditions across the island. According to the Meteorological Service, rain, thunderstorms and strong winds are expected on Sunday, with conditions improving gradually later in the day.

Showers and possible thunderstorms

The weather today will be partly cloudy to mostly cloudy at times, with local showers and isolated thunderstorms expected in several areas. Hail may occur during thunderstorms, while snow or sleet is possible on the highest peaks of the Troodos mountains.

Conditions are expected to improve gradually from the afternoon onwards.

Strong winds and rough seas

Winds will initially be variable and moderate to strong at 4 to 5 Beaufort, becoming locally strong to very strong at 5 to 6 Beaufort with gusts that may reach up to 7 Beaufort in some areas. Winds will soon shift mainly to west to north-west and remain strong to very strong, again reaching up to 6 Beaufort with gusts of up to 7 Beaufort.

The sea will be rough to choppy.

Temperatures are expected to reach around 17 degrees Celsius inland, about 20 degrees along the coast and around 9 degrees in the higher mountainous areas.

Cooler night with possible frost in the mountains

Tonight, locally increased cloud cover may bring isolated showers mainly in the western parts of the island. Winds will blow mainly from the south-west to west and will be light to moderate at 3 to 4 Beaufort, occasionally reaching 4 to 5 Beaufort in some areas.

The sea will remain rough.

Temperatures overnight are expected to fall to around 9 degrees inland, about 11 degrees on the coast and near 2 degrees in the higher mountains, where frost may form locally.

Weather outlook for the coming days

On Monday, the weather will be partly cloudy, with a chance of isolated showers around midday, mainly in mountainous areas.

On Tuesday and Wednesday, periods of increased cloud cover are expected, with isolated showers possible on Wednesday.

Temperatures will rise slightly on Monday, particularly inland, reaching levels close to seasonal averages. On Tuesday and Wednesday, temperatures are expected to remain at similar levels.

Dust is also expected to appear in the atmosphere from Wednesday, with concentrations likely to increase at times.
