A section of the Oroklini seafront promenade has become very dangerous due to structural stability problems and erosion. This is an issue that has been growing increasingly serious over time in this coastal area. As a result, Larnaca Municipality announced yesterday the temporary closure of part of the seafront promenade between the Mer Blue restaurant and the Radisson Beach Resort hotel, due to serious structural stability problems that have appeared recently.
According to the announcement, the problems were caused by intense erosion observed in the area, which has led to the formation of cracks at the level of the promenade near the outdoor exercise area. Larnaca Municipality stated that from Wednesday, 4 February 2026, the public is asked to use an alternative route, which at this stage will not be accessible to people who use wheelchairs. However, appropriate solutions for access for people with disabilities will be provided soon.
The announcement notes that Larnaca Municipality is in continuous contact with the relevant government departments to address the severe phenomena of erosion and coastal retreat observed in the area, phenomena that create significant problems for existing infrastructure.
At the same time, Larnaca Municipality apologises for the inconvenience that will arise and calls on visitors to the area to be cautious, especially at points where problems and cracks are present, and to comply with the signage that will be installed.
The problem of erosion has been particularly severe in the coastal area of Oroklini in recent years, with local authorities trying to find appropriate solutions, as in the previous period the sea swallowed several metres of sandy beach.
