The tendering process and improvement of internal control mechanisms were at the forefront of a meeting between Justice Minister Costas Fytiris and Auditor General Andreas Papaconstandinou.

According to a Justice Ministry statement, also discussed were a number of ways by which to further strengthen effectiveness of services across the competent ministerial departments.

The exchange of views, in the framework of institutional cooperation between the Justice Ministry and the Audit Office, included issues faced by the police force and the Central Prisons department, with a view to upgrading control and accountability mechanisms.

It was agreed that transparency was needed in the management of on going projects or works scheduled for implementation in the near future.

'To that end, the focus was strengthening the monitoring processes and preventing mismanagement,' the statement said.

As noted, cooperation between the ministry and the Audit Office was a fundamental pillar of strengthening transparency, good adminstration and citizen trust to state institutions.
